The Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES) collects, analyzes and communicates data to monitor and improve the health of New Yorkers. BES provides statistical analytic supports for public health surveillance, epidemiologic research, and program evaluations in DOHMH. It also promotes strengthening internal capacities for research and evaluation through consultation and regular trainings for DOHMH staff. The Bureau plays a pivotal role for initiating and performing inter- and intra-agency collaboration projects, including acquiring data, developing study designs and methodologies, analyzing data, and disseminating findings.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
--Monitor individual ThriveNYC program implementations by establishing and improving a system to collect and report process and outcome indicators on a regular basis.
--Work collaboratively with ThriveNYC program leads to develop short-term and long-term targets and timelines to help quantify success of ThriveNYC.
--Establish and maintain relationships and communications with multiple stakeholders, including City Hall, Division of Mental Hygiene, Division of Epidemiology, ThriveNYC program leads, and other city partners to streamline communications and disseminate agendas, goals, and findings.
--Serve as the liaison to the DOHMH ThriveNYC team to respond to information requests from City Hall, City Council, and other NYC agencies.
--Contribute to drafting reports for senior managers and stakeholders and both agency- and peer-reviewed publications by writing policy statements and evaluations.
--Work closely with Bureau leadership and staff to collaborate on and coordinate analysis and research.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health. To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have: 1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or 2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.
NOTE: Probationary Period Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
