As a Healthcare Mechanical Professional Engineer with VUMC, you will manage multiple projects and possess the ability to work in a team environment. Responsibilities include coordinating the planning, design and construction processes of Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, and Fire Protection systems, maintaining quality control while minimizing project costs and maximizing energy efficiency within the healthcare facility and the ability to perform both conceptual and tangible design of the MP&E/FP systems.

Required:
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 7 years' experience
Registered Professional Engineer Required (Mechanical Engineer)
Healthcare industry experience
Key Responsibilities:
Master Planning (10%)
Assist in development and maintenance of master development plans for VUMC mechanical infrastructure to meet projected Medical Center growth.
Forecast needs and develop specific plans to accommodate new technologies and integrate new buildings into the campus systems.
Project Design: (20%)
Review mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and medical gas documents from the conceptual stage through construction documents.
Review shop drawings.
Evaluate design of Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection (M/P/FP) systems as appropriate based on type, first cost, operating and maintenance cost and energy management cost.
Evaluate and develop design concepts and direct consultants in the design criteria of mechanical systems.
Project Management: (30%)
Observe construction progress and quality of construction craftsmanship.
Evaluate value-engineering and cost reduction proposals and make decisions regarding the work.
Review contractor/consultant pay applications.
Assist project manager in development of project budgets.
Serve as project manager on specialized M/P/FP projects
Prepare capital budgets for recommended M/P/FP projects for system additions or retrofits that improve operating efficiency and/or conserve energy.
Prepare all documents and information to process budget approval.
Coordinate different contractors work or different contracts involving one mechanical system or space.
Plant Services Coordination: (10%)
Be an advocate for Plant Services.
Provide design assistance to Plant Services to upgrade/maintain existing facility systems.
Coordinate utilities between all projects and plan for future expansions.
Standards Development and Quality Control: (20%)
Maintain and improve facility design and construction standards to preserve systems quality while minimizing cost
Research and evaluate new products and systems in the M/P/FP industry, and determine where and if they can be applied within healthcare and/or research facilities.
Evaluate and assist in selection of M/P/FP contractors based on their work quality, performance and experience.
Management of Commissioning Process: (10%)
Request and procure proposals and conduct interviews for commissioning of M/P/FP systems.
Manage the commissioning activities within projects.
Maintain standards related to commissioning requirements.
