Iowa City Hospice is seeking a part time (75% FTE 30 hours per week) Medical Director. This position requires an experienced and compassionate professional to ensure proper structures, policies; procedures and people are in place to provide safe, regulatory compliant, fiscally responsible medical care. Supervisory Responsibilities: Physician(s); Nurse Practitioner(s); Pharmacist Employment Status: Salary, Exempt Schedule: Hours are mostly M-F 8-5, participates in the Medical Team Oncall Schedule. Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to): 1. Serve as a member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team. 2. Provide clinical expertise and participate in team decisions regarding diagnosis and medical management of patient & family needs. 3. Ensure the Medical team is in compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation and the Iowa City Hospice budget. 4. Complete initial certification and recertification documentation in alignment with state and federal regulations. 5. Direct the medical component of the Iowa City Hospice patient care program. 6. Motivate and lead the medical team to provide the highest quality of care possible. 7. Provide hospice consultation to staff and medical community. 8. Consult with the attending physician and Interdisciplinary team in establishing a written plan of care, updating the plan of care and certifying the patient’s appropriateness for hospice care. 9. Assume oversight of the Advance Practice Registered Nurse and medical learners. 10. Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication standards to advance cooperative working relationships with Iowa City Hospice staff, management and care partners. 11. Provide direct medical care of patients when asked or appropriate, including making home visits. 12. Serve as the patient’s hospice primary physician upon request, when appropriate. 13. Provide medical back up in all cases in which we do not serve as the primary physician. 14. Ensure 24/7 access to the medical team. 15. Provide medical expertise for standards of care, policies and procedures, quality assurance and improvement programs and program development. 16. Ensure effective use of resources 17. Serve as an educational source to staff, Care Partners and Community. 18. Ensure implementation of strategic goals 19. Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization. 20. Assure the implementation of and participate in the Quality Assessment and Improvement Program and safety activities. 21. Participate in Iowa City Hospice’s success by ensuring access to our exceptional care. 22. Support and promote Iowa City Hospice’s mission to lead in providing exceptional patient-centered end-of-life care and grief support to anyone affected by a terminal illness. 23. Qualifications: : Iowa City Hospice requires 100% of clinical staff, employed at 50% FTE or greater, obtain an applicable certification in hospice and palliative care, by the 3rd year of employment. Licensure: Maintain licensure to practice medicine in the State of Iowa. Certification: Certification in Hospice or Palliative Care, or actively working towards Education: Complete ten (10) hours of CME in palliative care annually. Experience: Hospice and palliative care experience preferred. Driving: Proof of license and current insurance coverage.
