About Alma Midwifery - CABC-accredited and state licensed mid-volume birth center: 12-14 births per month. Open and in good community standing since 2004 — a PDX Parent’s Choice birth center! We are getting busier and are ready for welcoming a new CNM to our team.
- Slow paced clinic days: CNMs spend an hour with each client for prenatal care and two hours for initial exam and history. On average, midwives see only eight clients per day. This type of care allows you to build a relationship with the people we serve.
- On-call system is two tiered: 1st call and 2nd call on-call status requires 24/7 availability for approximately 14 days per month, including one weekend 1st call and one weekend 2nd call. All first call shifts include phone and triage work, reviewing/reporting labs, and answering client portal messages; some shifts include attending births.
- Clinic schedule: 6 days per month from 9:00-19:00, including prep time in the AM. These long days allow Friday to be an off call day.
- Births are attended by the CNM with a CPM assist. Often, a student midwife will also attend as Alma is also an educational site.
- Home visits are also part of the responsibility of the 1st call midwife, with gas card provided.
- We serve as diverse a population as Portland offers; LGBTQIA+ friendly with on-site IUI program.
- Alma is the perfect place for a CNM that understands that the trade-off for working in this autonomous, slower-paced environment is a slightly lower salary than a busy hospital practice can provide.
- Alma has the technology, medical equipment and medications expected of an evidence-based CABC-accredited birth center including: NST, ultrasound, anti-hemorrhagic medications, IV fluids and antibiotics, nitrous oxide, equipment and meds for the full NRP algorithm, CCHD screening, Client Care EHR program, Up-to-date subscription, and journal article access.
- Alma Midwifery has a robust Continuous Quality Improvement program, which facilitates routine emergency and skills drills and educational inservices
