Senior Accountant

The Sr. Accountant position analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares financial statements and reports requiring advanced application and use of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology of accounting, independently. The Sr. Accountant job applies applicable regulations, policies and procedures.

The Finance and Contracts team supports each research department to ensure financial compliance is met and audits are complete for all grants and contracts at VUMC. In accepting externally funded sponsored grants and contracts VUMC agrees to abide by certain federal and non-federal rules and regulations regarding the use of the funds. We accomplish this through working collaboratively with each department to invoice sponsors, collect revenue, apply payments, and review and submit financial reports per the award terms and conditions in each grant or contract. In addition, we work with internal and external auditors to complete an annual single audit of all federal funds received as well as coordinate and respond to all audit requests from any sponsor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluates and recommends improvements in accounting system procedures to ensure accurate application of accounting principles.
• Analyzes, reviews and presents information and summary reports.
• Approves and verifies transactions and reconciles highly complex transactions and accounts. Prepares complex journal and closing entries as well as general ledger accounts.
• Formats, designs, and prepares moderate to complex financial reports and schedules.
