The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics is an organization composed of biochemical, clinical, cytogenetic, medical, and molecular geneticists, genetic counselors, and other health care professionals committed to the practice of medical genetics. The ACMG was incorporated in 1991 to give national representation to providers of genetic services and their patients with genetic disorders and to speak for the emerging specialty of medical genetics in organizations and agencies concerned with medical service, certification, and regulatory issues. The ACMG provides education, resources, and a voice for the medical genetics profession and its' mission is to improve health through genetics.

NBSTRN Overview

ACMG operates the Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN). The NBSTRN facilitates ground-breaking research in newborn screening as an important part of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Hunter Kelly Newborn Screening Research Program. The NBSTRN began ten years ago as an effort to engage stakeholders across the NBS system and has matured into a dynamic and committed network of researchers, public health professionals and clinicians. Our team works with researchers who discover technologies to screen and diagnose disease, clinicians who study cutting-edge treatments and management strategies, state newborn screening programs who pilot new technologies and treatments, and policymakers who consider the ethical, legal, and social implications of NBS research. Working closely with the NBSTRN Scientific Strategy Manager, this role will be responsible for helping users access and utilize NBSTRN data tools through the development and deployment of online training modules designed for NBSTRN stakeholders including geneticists, clinicians, researchers, state NBS programs, families, and advocacy groups. The Genetic Data Integration Analyst consults with researchers writing funding proposals and will work closely with the NBSTRN Marketing Analyst to develop and conduct quarterly webinars and craft written material for the website to help increase the visibility of the NBSTRN user network. Knowledge in biological sciences in required and experience in genetics, genomics, genetic counseling, bioinformatics, public health, online education, and research preferred but not required. 

Job Description

• Create online training modules for NBSTRN users to become proficient using genetic data tools and resources.
• Work with the Marketing Analyst to conduct periodic online webinars to expand the NBSTRN network.
• Work with the Data Engineer to translate genetic related information for genetic data usage and database management on the website. 
• Assist in the planning, marketing, implementing, and evaluating of NBSTRN programs.
• Develop content to populate the new NBSTRN website across all topics areas, data tools, and resources.
• Write monthly e-zine articles for distribution to the ACMG membership.
• Review ACMG ACTion sheets related to newborn screening and identify areas for updates and/or future development.
• Assist NBSTRN users when they encounter problems using the NBSTRN tools and resources.
• Collaborate with NBSTRN members to develop new programs and refine existing ones related to newborn screening. 
• Assist on projects led by NBSTRN team members, NBSTRN users including researchers, clinicians, and informaticians.
• Oversees the Researcher Needs Workgroup with the goal of identifying the types of data tools and resources needed by the research community to advance newborn screening research.

Qualifications
Degree in Biology, Genetic, Genetic Counseling, and/or Bioinformatics

Physical Requirements 
This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.  

Benefits and Salary
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary for this shall be commensurate with the candidate’s skill and experience. ACMG offers an excellent benefits package.
