Valleywise Health is seeking an accomplished and strategic human resources leader to serve as its next SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). This is a unique opportunity to build a state-of-the-art human sources department for one of the most respected public teaching hospital and safety net health care systems in the country.
Valleywise Health is Arizona’s longest-serving public teaching hospital and safety net health care system. Located in Phoenix and named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation by Watson Health in 2020. Valleywise Health includes the 325-bed Valleywise Health Medical Center; three behavioral health hospitals with 433 licensed beds; the Arizona Burn Center, and a network of 9 Federally Qualified Community Health Centers and two Comprehensive Health Centers. Valleywise Health is a leader in physician education as a member of the Creighton University Health Education Alliance, and has 13 ACGME accredited residency programs with over 400 residents, over 800 medical student rotations, and nearly 2,000 nursing and allied health students. Valleywise Health has about 4,000 employees and has partnerships with over 650 physicians and other advanced healthcare providers. This is an exciting time to be joining Valleywise Health which has recently invested in rebranding efforts and will be opening a new teaching hospital in 2023.
The new CHRO will need to be an engaging and visible leader who will focus on a cultural change within human resources developing a high functioning team. Specific resource areas that need strategic direction include employee recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, organizational development, and a roadmap for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The CHRO will bring strategic value and consistency to the human resources team as well as best-of-breed tools and processes to decrease variation and enhance service. This leader will need to attract, recruit, and onboard employees to the culture of safety-net healthcare delivery. The new CHRO will modernize human resources to prepare for the future workforce needs of the organization when they become fully operational in new offices in two years. She/he will increase the focus and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within Valleywise Health. The CHRO will lead and recommend strategies that will increase the morale and wellness of employees while articulating a vision for human resources.
The CHRO reports to the Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and oversees a team of roughly 30 professionals. The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible Human Resources leadership experience preferably in a healthcare organization that demonstrates a deep commitment to serving their local population. Experience within a multi-campus health system, especially in public health, teaching, and/or safety-net hospitals is preferred. Experience outside of healthcare in highly regulated industries will also be considered. Progressive leadership experience managing, building, and inspiring human resources teams is highly sought after. This executive must be detail-oriented, base decisions on facts while being a compassionate leader.
