Our Laboratory seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to spearhead cutting-edge functional genomics in the field of inflammation / inflammatory bowel disease. Our lab applies systems-level analyses to gain mechanistic insights into human physiology, pathology and disease, and utilizes this knowledge to discover novel anti-inflammatory and immunotherapeutic approaches in IBD. This is a superb opportunity for a sharp scientist to spearhead ambitious projects exploring the immunogenetic mechanisms of IBD. We pursue diverse projects spanning both clinical and basic research, are highly collaborative, relying on both academic and industrial collaborations, and offer opportunities in developing projects with an emphasis on understanding the immuno-molecular basis of IBD.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research and grant proposals. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design and carry out research projects independently to achieve research goals
Regularly present new data at lab meetings
Develop new protocols, test and evaluate a variety of approaches
Write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals
Help prepare grant proposals and apply for mentored fellowship grant.
Project management, including oversight of other personnel in the laboratory
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
RNA-seq and single cell RNA seq technologies, sample and library prep to analysis of data.
Flow cytometry
Microscopy
Molecular biology experience, RNA/Protein extraction/handling, rtPCR, Western blotting, etc
Tissue culture- experience with intestinal MSC and organoids is ideal
Proper training in handling of human blood, tissue and other biohazard materials
Experience with bioinformatics and/or statistics analyzing large datasets
Ability to troubleshoot/optimize experimental protocols and assays.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
An ideal candidate should have a strong background in one or a combination of the following areas: Immunology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry. Preference will be given to candidates who have a solid understanding of biology and have prior experience in -omics data analysis. Experience in modeling, single cell RNA sequencing, organoid culturing, flow cytometry is highly desirable.
