General Description
The Clinical Associate is a full-time pediatric hospitalist with a commitment to medical education and practice at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Pediatric Combined Unit. Our goal is to deliver patient and family-centered Emergency and Inpatient care that epitomizes and leads the standard of excellence in pediatric clinical care delivery in a community hospital- based setting. Our patient population is diverse, with many patients and their parents possessing Limited English Proficiency. As part of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Clinical Associates participate in a variety of teaching and quality improvement activities.
Job Responsibilities:
1. The general nature or purpose of the job: As a Clinical Associate, your primary duty and responsibility is to act as a general pediatrician, providing attending level medical care to both pediatric patients presenting for acute care and pediatric patients in need of admission and inpatient management at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Pediatric Combined Unit.
2. Primary responsibilities include:
a. Direct patient care.
b. Serving as a preceptor to residents and medical students.
c. Collaboration with nurses, Pas, mental health evaluators, and ED faculty to optimize care and patient flow in the emergency department.
d. Consultant and overnight coverage for nursery providers (NP/PA)
e. Supervising doctor for pediatric PA in managing patients in Pediatric ED and inpatient
f. Competency in the following areas of practice:
i. Minor trauma care
ii. Minor procedures, including splinting and repair of lacerations
iii. Management of routine pediatric illness
iv. Adolescent gynecology
v. Patient education
vi. The education of residents and medical students.
3. Further responsibilities include:
a. Participation in departmental meetings/conferences as scheduled
b. Contribution towards the departmental goals and objectives as defined by the medical director and leadership team.
c. Participation in Children's Center efforts to improve throughput and safe care for all patients.
4. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, billing for services, written documentation and dictation, coordinating specialty care and speaking with consultants for patients, addressing patient issues over the phone, filling prescriptions, following-up lab results and timely completion of all associated clinical care documentation and associated patient paperwork.
Qualifications for this position include:
• Three Years Pediatric Residency
• MD/DO Degree, Board Certified or Board Eligible Pediatrician.
• Physicians will be required to undergo training in moderate sedation.
• Physicians will be expected to foster a cooperative environment with a focus on education and quality patient care.
• The successful candidate will be pediatrician who is eligible for a Maryland license and DEA registration. Outstanding clinical, collaborative and interpersonal skills are required.
• Candidates applying for this position will be required to complete additional credentialing processes.
