Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair will provide senior leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving Radiation Oncology for the faculty of the Department of Radiation Oncology, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished department of Radiation Oncology for the School of Medicine of Emory University. The Chair of Radiation Oncology has direct responsibility for building the Radiation Oncology program to include clinical care, basic science and translational research and resident and fellow training. Additionally, the Chair will work closely with the Winship Cancer Institute (Winship) leadership team to integrate the cancer research, clinical care, and educational missions of Winship, the School of Medicine and the Woodruff Health Sciences Center. A nationally recognized leader in Radiation Oncology, the Chair and Chief will lead the interests and missions of the Department of Radiation Oncology to enhance Emory's reputation as a leading biomedical research institution.
The Chair will serve as the senior physician executive for the Department of Radiation Oncology in the School of Medicine. The Chair will be responsible for oversight, mentorship and management of the Radiation Oncology faculty, growing the practice through health system integration and external relationships, ongoing communication about the practice to the organization, and driving operational efficiencies and quality. As Chief of Radiation Oncology, for Emory Healthcare, the Chair will also work closely with Emory Healthcare leadership to ensure highest quality Radiation Oncology service to all patients, to coordinate services across all medical facilities, and to exercise appropriate operational and financial management of Radiation Oncology faculty and services. The Chair will work closely with the Dean of the School of Medicine to develop the clinical programs involving Radiation Oncology care, plan new Radiation Oncology programs and facilities. In addition, the Chair of Radiation Oncology will work closely with the Director of the Winship and Winship's leadership team to advance cancer treatments, research, education and community outreach and engagement.
Qualifications
A qualified candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, be a board certified physician and a nationally recognized Radiation Oncology clinician and researcher. The individual will provide leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving radiation oncology for the faculty of the Department of Radiation Oncology. Candidates should possess a minimum of ten (10) years of clinical/educational leadership experience. S/he will be an accomplished operational and strategic leader with direct administrative experience to include a broad understanding of complex health strategies and issues challenging the field of radiation oncology and its medical education programs.
