In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.

Job Description

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a Research Fellow for the Global Cancer Disparities Initiative Program (GCDI).

This is a two-year grant funded position. The mission of the GCDI program is to improve outcomes for cancer patients in sub-Saharan Africa using collaborative research and training. In 2013 Drs. Peter Kingham, Director of GCDI-MSK and Isaac Alatise, Surgeon at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex in Ile Ife, Nigeria, founded the African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO). (https://www.argo-research.org/ . The Fellow will spend four months at MSK familiarizing themselves with ARGO research studies and MSK's policies and procedures related to IRB and compliance. The Fellow will than relocate to Ile, Ife Nigeria and will be housed on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University for the remainder of their fellowship. Working with Nigerian colleagues and under the guidance of a GCDI faculty member, the fellow will develop a research project or join an existing study underway where they will work with the Nigerian PI to conduct research, build capacity where needed and gain an extensive understanding of the challenges of cancer research in sub-Saharan Africa.

We are seeking an individual who has some previous experience working internationally in LMICs. An individual who is an effective communicator and comfortable working multi-cultural environments. Excellent communication skills, resilience in managing multiple projects and challenges, passionate about medicine and science and impacting cancer care in Africa. A commitment to accuracy, high attention-to-detail, and ability to work independently and in a team are critical competencies for the role.

In Nigeria, You will:

• Work with PIs and research assistants in Nigeria to further research studies
• Work with research team in New York to provide a link and open communication channel for on-going programs between Nigeria and New York
• Generate and co-lead prospective cancer focused studies in Nigeria
• Assist with the establishment of SOPs for clinical research including data collection/data entry and storage, project management, communication
• Support expansion of studies with Nigerian hospitals
• Facilitate and support training and educational programs both virtual and in-person.
• Participate in the development of new REDCap databases and existing REDCap databases.
• Assist with on-going QA audits for studies performed in Nigeria.
• Work with research team in Nigeria to extract, compile, and analyze data to generate reports for leadership
• Participate in special projects and task forces as determined by management. Support the work of investigators within MSK and internationally in Nigeria to accomplish research goals.
• Assist with administrative or clinic support such as handling/packaging/shipping dangerous goods following institutional and federal policies

You need:

• MPH in global health (epidemiology, biostatistics) preferably with experience working in LMIC
• Ability to work in multi-cultural environment with high degree of adaptability to working priorities and environments. This is a key component of the position as the majority of the time will be spent living in Nigeria.
• Knowledge in clinical trial regulatory and safety management a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel and Access, database knowledge.
• Experience with REDCap database a plus
• Experience with basic SPSS required and platforms like STATA and R a plus.
• Ability to solve problems by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.
• Familiarity with clinical research projects with strict deadlines
• Knowledge and understanding of the regulations pertaining to human subject protection (including 21 CFR and 45 CFR 46 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
