This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. The GRECC Director promotes and enhances the GRECC mission by fostering collaboration within and outside GRECC, supporting career development of trainees and faculty, and advancing the research enterprise through their own research program and support of other GRECC investigators. Duties include but not limited to: (1) Articulate and promote the vision, mission and goals of the program.\n(2) Advocate for resources (including space, personnel, supplies and travel support) on behalf of the GRECC.\n(3) Serve as ex officio member of the GRECC Advisory Subcommittee.\n(4) Represent or delegating authority to represent the GRECC on suitable committees, boards and councils of the VA medical facility and VISN and to Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) in Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO).\n(5) Ensure that all GRECC Associate Directors and the Administrative Officer work collaboratively in the annual development and evaluation of the GRECC's goals and objectives.\n(6) In collaboration with Human Resources, initiate all necessary personnel actions concerning GRECC Core Staff, including hiring, promotion, evaluation, recognition, counseling, reprimand, discipline and termination.\n(7) Establish an annual MOU with VA medical facility Director and VISN Director that outlines the responsibilities of each party to fulfill the mission of the GRECC.\n(8) Participate in the monthly calls and face to face meetings of the GRECC Directors.\n(9) Seek out and act upon opportunities to collaborate with other GRECC programs and personnel.\n(10) Provide oversight of the collaboration between VA medical facility ACOS/E or DEO and GRECC Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) regarding clinical training experiences for all GRECC trainees.\n(11) Provide clinical supervision to fellows, residents, and University of Washington (UW) medical students and be responsible for the ongoing clinical care and management of patients in GRECC clinics (and/or may also be responsible for at least one GRECC clinical demonstration project with associated clinic) for a total of one half day per week or its equivalent.\n(12) Participate in local, regional and national GRECC educational programs for VA providers and trainees; and in the clinical and research teaching and training programs of his/her associated department(s) at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
