Michigan Medicine is conducting a national search for a distinguished financial leader to serve as their next Chief Financial Officer.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs (EVPMA), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the executive leadership team, with responsibility for all financial activities for the integrated academic medical center, Michigan Medicine, including the University of Michigan Health (UMH), the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS), the medical group (UMMG), and the Michigan Health Corporation. They will also be the principal financial representative of Michigan Medicine to the community, governmental agencies, and the public.
In addition to working closely with the executive team of Michigan Medicine, the CFO works with the Office of the Executive Vice President for Business and Finance and CFO of the University (EVPCFO), the Provost’s Office, the UMH Board, and the University’s Board of Regents.
The CFO will oversee the integrated financial reporting and control, financial planning, decision support and budgeting, and Integrated Revenue Cycle & Compliance Operations which includes hospital and professional billing, patient business services, financial counseling, registration/insurance verification, utilization management, operational compliance, revenue cycle systems, training and quality improvement.
The successful candidate will provide strategic vision and management for the operational and fiscal direction of the organization, streamlining functions, processes and systems when appropriate. They will be responsible for the development of a strategic financial plan with vision/goals, priorities and timelines, based on collective insights across the organization, that addresses and aligns with the organizational objectives to grow significantly over the next five years.
The ideal candidate demonstrates the unique role strategic finance plays for growth related activities. They will support strategic and innovative thinking in order to transform and adapt to the realities of the health care industry and advance the institution’s long-term financial health. The next CFO will serve as the primary driver to find new methods to implement effective optimization of revenue capture, while supporting operations that are focused on the delivery of patient care and research.
Above all, this individual will help the organization and its people adapt and thrive in an evolving health care industry, and will inspire the organization to deliver on its mission to advance health to serve Michigan and the world. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 15 years of successful, progressive experience leading a finance function within health care. Individuals with experience in an academic medical center, major teaching hospital, multi-hospital system, health insurance company or related organizations will be strongly considered. A master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, health administration, or related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
