Practice Overview:
LVHN has been a Joint Commission-Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) since 2012, with Gold Plus elite certification by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, and with the distinction of having been the third Comprehensive Stroke Center to be certified in the nation, the first in Pennsylvania, and the recent honor of achieving our fourth Joint Commission CSC reaccreditation. The group covers 5 telestroke sites. Our new mobile stroke unit was the first to go live in Pennsylvania in 2019.
Over 1,500 stroke cases are admitted each year to LVHN making it one of the busiest stroke services in the nation. The hospital has 24-hour coverage for rapid response to all neurologic emergencies including three neurointerventionalists. The stroke group is fully supported by physician assistants/nurse practitioners, our neurocritical care neurologist team, and a staff of 16 neuroradiologists.
Neurology at LVHN has experienced significant growth and development during the last several years, and has grown to over 30 neurologists, over 20 advanced care providers, and our ACGME-accredited neurology residency program, ACGME-accredited vascular neurology fellowship, and ACGME-accredited clinical neurophysiology fellowship. Our four neurocritical care neurologists provide state-of-the-art neurocritical care in our dedicated 14-bed Neuroscience ICU. This new phase of growth of Neurology at LVHN is being led by Dr. Steven L. Lewis, Editor-in-Chief of Continuum: Lifelong Learning in Neurology.
