The University of California, Irvine (UCI), Department of Family Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology is recruiting a full-time faculty member to lead geriatric research that promotes innovative clinical care for older adults, community engagement, population health and elder mistreatment This position will be in the Professor series. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. Protected time is available for research.
The successful candidate will be expected to have significant experience and accomplishments in research, publications and grants. He/she will demonstrate a record of successful clinical research, including research design, statistical analysis, project development, and community-based research design The candidate will be expected to partner with faculty within and outside of the Division and to spearhead multi-disciplinary collaborations.
The successful candidate will be expected to bring and/or to develop an extramural funded research program at a high level of accomplishment, leading to significant programmatic developments, partnerships, national and international recognition.
UCI Geriatric Medicine is a Division of the UCI Department of Family Medicine, within the UCI School of Medicine and UCI Health, the only academic health center serving Orange County with a population of more than three million. The Geriatric Division has repeatedly been awarded as one of the top geriatric programs in the nation by US News and World Reports. The Division includes the UCI SeniorHealth Center, a site of primary care and consultative health care serving patients and communities as well as practice within skilled nursing facilities. The faculty lead a Geriatric Fellowship for Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians, all of whom are required to pursue scholarly projects. The Division has a distinguished record of education, workforce development and collaboration with faculty, staff and trainees in other departments and schools within the University, state and nation. The Division has a substantial track record of grant/foundation support for scholarly activity in areas such as dementia care, elder and dependent abuse mistreatment, disaster planning, digital health, and innovative health care models for older adults.

Requirements: Candidates must possess an MD or Ph.D. in a health-related degree. Experience in gerontology or geriatric medicine are preferred. Candidates who demonstrate the ability to be competitive for extramural funding (e.g., current funding or submitted applications for mentored or independent awards, particularly from the NIH) are desired.

Successful applicants should have demonstrated experience in effective and innovative teaching; mentorship for junior faculty, graduate students, medical students, and undergraduates in research methods is desirable.
