The research groups of Drs. Samuel Jenness (EpiModel Research Lab), Ben Lopman, and Kristin Nelson are seeking an post-doctoral fellow to work on several studies in the domain of vaccines and respiratory and sexually transmitted infectious disease epidemiology, funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These studies include: 1) EpiModel 2.0, an NIH-funded study to support the development of the EpiModel software platform that specializes in modeling infectious disease dynamics across explicitly represented temporal contact networks; 2) CorporateMix, a CDC-funded study of social mixing patterns in corporate office settings to support the development of epidemic models of disease transmission; 3) GlobalMix, an NIH-funded study of social mixing data from urban and rural populations in four low/middle income countries to support the development of epidemic models of disease transmission; 4) SWANSS, a Gates Foundation funded study to guide public health interventions within correctional (jail and prison) settings; 5) an NIH-funded project to model the impact new TB vaccines to inform plans for introduction in low- and middle-income countries.

The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects above, with the specific work distribution depending on experience and interests. In addition to specific scientific work on those projects, the post-doctoral fellow may have opportunities to contribute to other ongoing work in our research labs, develop independent research proposals, receive training at short-courses/workshops, and present scientific work at national/international scientific conferences.

The Department of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health offers a rich environment for training and collaborative work, hosting regular department events and seminars that foster community among students, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff and provide opportunities for continued learning. We are in the process of developing a cross-campus center in vaccine epidemiology which the post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to play a key role.

Preferred Qualifications:

A MD/DVM/PhD plus experience or MPH in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other relevant quantitative field. Excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with others on the team and collaborators. Experience with programming in the R computing language and infectious disease epidemiology.

Preferred Experience:

* Expertise in data management and analysis using R or another statistical software. Demonstrated interest and experience in scientific software development, using common development tools and approaches (e.g., version control with Github)* Experience with transmission modeling, mathematical epidemiology, statistics for infectious diseases, and multi-scale disease modeling * Experience in analysis and interpretation of laboratory data (serological, molecular testing) to infer disease transmission patterns * Experience and interest in infectious disease dynamics of respiratory and/or sexually transmitted diseases, vaccines, surveillance, or global health

Additional Job Details:

The post-doctoral fellow will be under the mentorship of Drs. Samuel Jenness, Ben Lopman, and Kristin Nelson and will have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in the field. The position will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The initial appointment is for two years, and renewal is anticipated if performance is satisfactory, and funds remain available.
