Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, a national leader in research, education, and clinical care, is announcing the search for Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader to provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the Department, including education, research, and clinical care.
IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 25,000 alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Its diverse faculty is made up of 3,095 full-time members and 3,783 volunteer faculty who are responsible for training medical, graduate, and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana.
The Department of Family Medicine promotes optimal health for individuals, families and the global community. The Department provides continuing and comprehensive patient care and delivers excellence in family medicine through innovative medical education and practice-based health services research. The Department’s research activities focus on real solutions to society’s problems to improve the health and lives of the residents of Indiana. Most recently the Department was awarded as one of two United States Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative Flagship Program Sites and is one of seven sites in the world, implementing cognitive assessment screening in six IU Health Physicians Primary Care practices to screen over 1,500 adults over the age of 65. Family medicine’s clinical teams are affiliated with four IU Health outpatient ambulatory clinics and inpatient services at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Physician educators provide patient care in the school’s Indianapolis clinical partner facilities: IU Health Methodist Hospital, Windrose Health Network, IU Health University Hospital and Shalom Health Care Center. Family medicine physicians provide the majority of care for America’s underserved rural and urban populations. As part of the Department of Family Medicine at IU School of Medicine, the Indiana Area Health Education Center Network is improving community health by recruiting, educating and retaining health care professionals for underserved patient populations in Indiana.
This position is ideal for a collaborative and transformational leader who can build on existing strengths in the department and has the vision to expand research and educational functions through new programs aligned with the Department’s mission statement. Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. Minimum qualifications include an MD or MD/PhD. Academic appointment type is open and will be determined based on academic credentials. The individual selected for this position must be a highly accomplished leader with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and change management skills, as well as demonstrating a strong commitment to upholding our core values, including promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
