The Department of Emergency Medicine at UCLA is seeking excellent candidates to become our next Residency Program Director. The position will be based at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, associated with Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical Center (RRMC). Founded in 1978, the UCLA Emergency Medicine Residency Program has 60 residents (15 per year, four years). Our residents equally split their Emergency Medicine time between RRMC and Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC). RRMC is an academic medical center on the main UCLA campus in Westwood, 520-bed, level 1 trauma and comprehensive stroke center with a 41-bed ED and 55,000 annual visits. OVMC is a 377-bed, Los Angeles County public hospital serving the two million residents living in the San Fernando Valley of northern LA County, with a 51-bed ED and 60,000 annual visits. All faculty share responsibilities for patient care and teaching our residents and UCLA medical students. UCLA Emergency Medicine offers fellowships in medical education, research, ultrasound, administration, health equity, and space medicine. UCLA Health is consistently ranked in the top 5 nationally by U.S. News & World Report, and has appeared in the honor roll for over 30 consecutive years.
Program Director applicants should demonstrate commitment to emergency medicine residency training, and particular talents in teaching, leadership, curriculum development, and educational research.
To be considered applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
MD or DO degree
Successful completion of Emergency Medicine residency training in an ACGME or ACOGME accredited program
Current ABEM or ABOEM certification
At least three years of educational/administrative experience
Demonstrated leadership experience
Ongoing scholarly productivity, including at least one peer-reviewed publication within the past five years
A current unrestricted medical license in the United States
In addition to the above, minimum criteria, the selection committee will consider the following qualifications:
Completion of an Education Fellowship
Advanced training or degree in Education
Experience with resident evaluation including implementation, ACGME competencies and milestones, evaluation meetings with residents, and resident remediation
Experience with a broad range of duties including:
Outstanding professionalism and demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated skills in simulation medicine, ultrasound, and commitment to diversity
The Department is seeking candidates with a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, staff, and trainees. We seek candidates at any Professorial level. Relevant experience, Fellowship training, and/or advanced degree preferred. Candidates must be Emergency Medicine residency trained, ABEM certified, eligible for California medical licensure, and qualified for faculty appointment in the UCLA School of Medicine.
