Summary
Full time opportunity for APP to join a busy orthopedic surgery practice in beautiful northern Michigan. Candidate will primarily be outpatient/clinic based seeing both new and established patients, pre and post-op visits, wound care and cast care. Inpatient/ED consults, surgical first assist and surgical rounding will be required when other APP is off. Willingness to learn injections and other orthopedic related procedures required. Other duties include helping to support visiting podiatrist. Candidates preferred with some level of experience in orthopedic surgery or general medicine, but willing to evaluate new graduates and/or those with limited experience. Traditional Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM schedule.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care of patients with a wide spectrum of orthopedic conditions.
- Perform history and physicals, ordering of diagnostic studies, prescribe medications, interaction and direct communication with referring physicians with collaboration and direct reporting of patient information to the medical staff.
- Coordinate care with other disciplines, build strong collaborative relationships across the organization as some orthopedic patients require long-term follow-up.
- Direct care and management in the outpatient setting would include: initiation of evaluation, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration with and referrals to other health care providers, and provision of education to nursing staff, students, and the community.
- Review laboratory, pathology and radiographic tests results and interface with medical staff and patients regarding test results and plan of care.
Certifications and Licensures
- AHA approved BLS certification
- Active State of Michigan license or eligible to apply
Required Education
- Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Experience preferred (orthopedic surgery or general medicine)
