Overview
The R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education at Beebe Healthcare is seeking Assistant Residency Program Director for its Family Medicine Residency to assist the Program Director in the development, design, implementation, education and supervision of the new program. We are a 4-4-4 program with continued accreditation status with the ACGME.
Responsible to assist the Program Director in the planning, implementation and direction of the Family Medicine Residency. In this leadership role, the Associate Program Director (APD) assists in the overall planning and direction of activities associated with the Family Medicine Residency in order to meet the ACGME, ABFM, and other regulatory agency requirements for resident physicians and faculty. Under the direction of the Program Director, Family Medicine Residency and the Graduate Medical Education Committee, the APD assists in maintaining and supporting the mission of patient care and medical education, the medical staff bylaws, and the policies and procedures of the medical center (in accordance with the Board of Trustees, Administration, Medical Staff, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals of this hospital). The Associate Program Director will split their time between administrative and clinical responsibilities, including the supervision of residents. This split is 50% clinical and 50% administrative.
Responsibilities
A. Patient Care – The Associate Program Director will provide high quality patient care in a timely, cost-efficient manner to a broad range of patients consistent with the specialty of Family Medicine. Overall, the Associate Program Director will spend clinical time (caring for patients from their own panel) and supervising resident physicians. This will be in accordance with Beebe Healthcare requirements as outlined, but not limited to, the below:
- Maintain board certification through regular CME activities and board examinations.
- Maintain personal panel of patients and provide supervision to the resident physicians in the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings.
- Provide care to newborns, children, women and adults in all settings.
- Proficient in common procedures within the scope of Family Medicine.
- Participate in night call activities and inpatient rounds on patients of all ages.
- Participate in weekend call activities for the practice and residency.
- Uses resources (referrals and testing) and treatment appropriate to practice philosophy.
- Engages in all practice policies/procedures including QA/QI projects.
- Maintains hospital privileges.
B. Resident Education
- Serve as an advisor and mentor for resident physicians.
- Teach, evaluate, and provide formative and summative feedback to resident physicians.
- Supervise and mentor resident physicians in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Understand and fully implement the ACGME Common Program Requirements along with the FM Specific Program requirements.
- Ensure compliance with polices and procedures of Beebe Healthcare, the Medical Staff Bylaws and policies of Graduate Medical Education.
- Assists in assuring the arrangement of affiliations and/or outside rotations necessary to meet the program objectives.
- Assume leadership for the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC), Mid-Cycle Reviews and will participate in the coordination of inspections as required by the ACGME. Including completion of the ACGME milestones.
- Responsible for the coordination and curriculum of weekly didactic sessions, including but not limited to journal club, board review, etc.
- Actively participates in scholarly activity and mentor’s resident physicians.
- Actively participates in the recruitment and selection of new candidates for the Family Medicine residency during interview season including application review, interviewing, selection and ranking.
- Any other educational duties as assigned by the DIO and PD.
Qualifications
- ABMS or AOA board certification in Family Medicine.
- Have or be able to obtain medical licensure in the State of Delaware and appropriate medical staff appointment.
- Documented clinical, educational, scholarly activity and administrative experience beyond residency training with some experience as academic faculty.
- Demonstration of professional behaviors that allow the Associate Program Director to serve as a role model.
- Demonstration of strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate values and behaviors consistent with Beebe Healthcare’s values.
