UVA Health is seeking dedicated Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) to join our expanding Primary Care team as Behavioral Health Consultants. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work within an integrated care model—collaborating directly with pediatric and family medicine providers to support patients’ mental, behavioral, and physical health.

As a Behavioral Health Consultant, you will play a vital role in improving access to mental health care by providing brief, focused interventions and consultative support in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide same-day behavioral health consultations (“warm handoffs”) for patients referred by primary care providers.
- Conduct brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions for a wide range of behavioral and mental health concerns.
- Deliver collaborative, stepped, and measurement-based care within a population health model.
- Support primary care providers through behavioral health recommendations, education, and “curbside” consults.
- Assist in managing patients in crisis and coordinating referrals to community or specialty mental health resources.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, program evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Required: Active LPC or LCSW license in the state of Virginia (or license-eligible with intent to obtain within a specified timeframe).
- Education: Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Experience providing behavioral health services in a medical or integrated care setting strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
