The Salisbury VAMC in Salisbury, North Carolina is actively seeking a well-qualified Hospitalist with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to serve as a Staff Hospitalist at the Salisbury VAMC. There are no Recruitment Incentives associated with this position. Duties include, but not limited to: Serves primarily as a hybrid-hospitalist responsible for the medical care of surgical patients and perioperative management. Aids in optimizing patients prior to joint replacements and those undergoing complex surgeries. Aids in the potential development and management of an inpatient pre/peri-operative clinic to optimize patients prior to surgery. Manages the consult service where he/she will initiate, round on, and resolve daily consults. Assists in improving and maintaining key quality initiatives and metrics including reduction in surgical complications, length of stay, and readmission rates. In the event of unplanned leave or sick leave where 2 or more providers are out, the hybrid-hospitalist will serve as a float physician and rotate onto the 7on/7off service and perform duties typically expected of a staff hospitalist or nocturnist. The hybrid-hospitalist may also be asked to assume the role of the daily triage physician, being responsible for completing admissions and consults requested by the Emergency Department staff as well as direct admissions from the community and outpatient providers. Serves as acting Program manager for hospitalist service (if appropriate) as needed for triaging purposes. Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Center Policy Memorandum, 1-4, "Supervision of Postgraduate Residents," when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service. Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned by the by the Section Chief or Program Manager of the Hospitalist Section. Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center. Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center. Maintains clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities with Medicine Services. Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management. Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients when clinical assignments so dictate. Utilizes problem solving methodologies to resolve problems that impact on patient care or staff performance. Assist in conducting studies regarding treatment modalities, outcomes, and other aspects of patient care when appropriate.
