Summary
The incumbent of this position provides integrated outpatient - accessible health care services with their health care teams who are accountable for addressing a large majorityof personal health care needs - developing a sustained partnership with patients - and practicing in the context of family and community. The care is person-centered - team-based - community-aligned - and designed to achieve better health - better care - and lower costs.
Duties
- FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF PRACTICE: The incumbent provides direct patient care in an outpatient clinic setting and works as a member of Employee Health to oversee and coordinate medical care for a population of employees in a group practice setting
- The incumbent evaluates - diagnoses - treats - and provides consultation to employee patients 18 years of age and older with common and complex illnesses - diseases - and functional disorders of the circulatory - respiratory - endocrine - metabolic - musculoskeletal -hematopoietic - gastroenteric - neurological - skin - and genitourinary systems as delineated on the incumbents Primary Care Service Line Medical Center approved Physician assistant privileges
- Assesses - stabilizes - and determines the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services
- The incumbent may also perform other related administrative and Employee Health champion duties as requested and assigned
- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The incumbents is responsible to the Deputy Chief of Primary Care as their first line supervisor - and to the Associate Chief of Staff - Primary Care as their second- line supervisors
- The incumbent is expected to practice independently - exercising initiative and independent judgement in day-to-day activities
- QUALIFICATIONS Meets the Medical Practice and Administrative Qualification Standards commensurate with area of licensure and specialty Board eligibility/certification (i.e. - physician - nurse practitioner - psychologist)
- AGE - DEVELOPMENTAL AND CULTURAL NEEDS OF PATIENTS Possesses knowledge of age - cultural and gender related developmental stages and needs of individuals including the elderly and applies this knowledge when working with employees
- Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age - developmental requirements and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved
- CUSTOMER SERVICE: Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all customers both internal and external - including but not limited to veterans/service members and their families - Veterans Benefits Administration - Veterans Service Organizations - and Office of Disability Medical Assessment
- Maintains effective relationships and communication with staff - peers - and Medical Center administration
- Serves as role model for staff in these relationships
- Effectively communicates with and utilizes other disciplines (e.g
- nursing - medicine) to facilitate program planning and needs as indicated
