Position Summary
The Division Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine provides strategic, clinical, operational, academic, and administrative leadership for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division within the Department of Pediatrics. The Director is responsible for advancing excellence in inpatient pediatric care, faculty development, quality and safety initiatives, education, research/scholarship, and program growth across all affiliated hospital sites.
The Division Director will lead a multidisciplinary team of pediatric hospitalists and advanced practice providers while collaborating closely with nursing leadership, subspecialty services, graduate medical education programs, and hospital administration to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Oversee all clinical activities of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered inpatient pediatric care.
- Develop and implement clinical standards, protocols, and evidence-based practices.
- Lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, throughput, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists, emergency medicine, critical care, surgical services, and voluntary providers to optimize care coordination.
Administrative Leadership
- Provide vision and strategic direction for divisional growth and program development.
- Manage divisional operations, including staffing models, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Recruit, retain, mentor, and evaluate faculty.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and inclusion.
- Participate in departmental and institutional leadership committees and strategic initiatives.
- Develop business plans and growth opportunities for pediatric inpatient services.
Academic & Educational Leadership
- Support excellence in medical education for medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice trainees.
- Promote faculty academic development, mentorship, and career advancement.
- Encourage scholarly activity, quality improvement research, clinical research, and innovation within the division.
Quality & Safety
- Lead divisional quality improvement and patient safety programs.
- Monitor clinical performance metrics and regulatory compliance.
- Advance initiatives related to evidence-based care, care standardization, antimicrobial stewardship, transitions of care, and health equity.
- Partner with institutional quality and safety leaders to meet organizational goals.
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Collaborate with departmental and hospital leadership on financial performance and operational planning.
- Monitor productivity, utilization, and divisional performance metrics.
- Support optimization of clinical workflows and resource utilization.
Prospective candidate
- Board-certified or eligible Pediatric Hospital
- Physician with a strong track record of leadership, clinical excellence, and academic achievement.
- Eligible for medical licensure in New York.
