Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Director of Anatomic Pathology to lead clinical, academic, and strategic initiatives at Grady Memorial Hospital—one of the nation’s premier public academic health systems. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape the future of anatomic pathology within a major safety-net hospital while advancing innovation, education, and health equity in partnership with a leading academic institution.
The division supports a high-volume, diagnostically diverse practice, including approximately 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 12,700 cytology cases, and 70 autopsies annually. With planned adoption of digital pathology and continued program growth, this role offers a unique platform for innovation and modernization.
The Director will serve as the clinical and academic leader of Anatomic Pathology at Grady, with responsibility for setting strategic direction, overseeing faculty and operations, and driving program growth and innovation. This individual will play a key role in shaping departmental priorities, advancing quality initiatives, and expanding the division’s academic and clinical footprint.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic vision and operational direction of Anatomic Pathology, with a focus on growth, innovation, and clinical excellence
- Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty, fostering a high-performing and academically engaged team
- Oversee clinical quality, compliance, and laboratory operations in collaboration with institutional leadership
- Strengthen and expand educational programs for medical students, residents, and fellows
- Drive implementation of digital pathology and other emerging technologies to enhance diagnostic capabilities
Qualifications
- MD, MD/PhD or DO required
- Board certification in Anatomic Pathology and eligibility for Georgia medical licensure
- 3–5+ years of experience in surgical pathology and/or subspecialty practice
- Demonstrated success in program development, quality improvement, or clinical innovation
- Strong commitment to education, mentorship, and academic excellence
- Prior leadership experience preferred
